Massage Therapy

Can I attend days/evenings?
The Massage Therapy Certificate Program is offered in both Daytime and Evening options:
Evening/Weekend Schedule: Students in the Evening/Weekend program will complete the massage therapy program in 18 months*. The evening classes meet two evenings per week 6pm to 10pm and one weekend classes per month. Weekends consist of a Friday evening from 6pm to 10pm and a Saturday & Sunday. Configuration and hours may vary, so please refer to your schedule for the specific weekend hours.

How long does it take to complete the coursework in Massage Therapy?
Daytime Schedule: For those students with weekdays available and who want to complete the program as quickly as possible, we offer an accelerated schedule. Students will be classified as full time and will complete the program in 14 months*, attending class two full days each week (8:30am to 5:30pm) on Monday – Wednesday or Tuesday – Thursday.

What skills do I learn in massage?
WellSpring School of Allied Health offers a very diverse curriculum in Massage Therapy. The most unique feature of the program is the incorporation of a basic wellness curriculum. Practitioners increasingly find that clients are craving direct and honest guidance about how to maintain a natural wellness lifestyle. Our program prepares practitioners to provide this guidance with the inclusion of classes on stress management, nutrition and communication skills. Classes are included in 6 Modules covering:

Does WellSpring offer loans and Financial Aid for the program?
Yes, there are several options for paying for your education here at WellSpring School of Allied Health, including the availability of loans. WellSpring offers loans to those who qualify through Missouri and Kansas Workforce Investment Acts, and Veterans Education Assistance. We are also approved by the U.S. Department of Education to offer loans and grants through the Federal Title IV program, to students who qualify. WellSpring offers scholarships to assist you in paying for your education as well.
Scholarships are limited and awarded for each class start.
Each student’s financial needs are unique, and the process of determining the right assistance for you is highly collaborative.

What type of hands-on experience will I receive?
Students in the Massage Therapy program at WellSpring receive not only in classroom hands-on instruction and practice; they also employ the talents they learn in a clinical internship at WellSpring’s student clinic.

What are the licensing requirements to become a Massage Therapist?
Licensing requirements to practice professional massage therapy vary according to where you plan to practice.
The state of Missouri requires that you pass the National Certification Exam. WellSpring has the area’s highest pass rate at 94% – well above the national average of 74%! Missouri also requires that you complete a course of study not less than 500 hours in length with a minimum of 300 hours of theory and practice; 100 hours of science; 50 hours of business, law and ethics; and 50 hours of electives. In Kansas, licensing is governed by individual cities. We advise you to call the City Hall in the city in which you intend to practice to find out specifically what that city requires and to request a copy of the city ordinances governing massage therapy.
Our 750-hour program is designed to not only to provide you enough hours to certify not only in Kansas & Missouri, but also to become licensed and practice in 48 of the 50 States!

What are the class-sizes like?
Classes are maintained at fewer than 18 students. This allows WellSpring to offer the best learning experience possible and fosters an environment that allows for the best hands-on experience for our students during hands-on technique work.

What is NASM and what certifications will I earn in the Fitness & Nutrition Degree Program?
WellSpring School of Allied Health has chosen to partner with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) because it is one of the most respected certifiers of personal trainers in the country. NASM has its roots in the NBA, where 93% of athletic trainers carry the NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist Advanced Specialization. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have the opportunity to take three separate NASM certification exams: The Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), the Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) and the Behavior Change Specialist (BCD). Having three NASM certifications positions our graduates to be among the highest paid professional personal trainers and wellness advocates in the market!

Are day and evening classes available and how long does the program take to complete?
The Fitness & Nutrition Degree Program is offered in two different configurations: Daytime or Evening/Weekend. The Daytime program meets one and a half days a week from 8:30am to 5:30pm, and 1:30pm to 5:30pm and is completed in 19 months*. The Evening/Weekend program meets two evenings per week, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm and two weekends per month. The evening/weekend program is completed in 23 months*.

Yes! While placement is not guaranteed, we will help in landing your first position upon graduating from WellSpring School of Allied Health, and we offer lifetime career support as long as you maintain your certification as a fitness trainer.

What experience do your personal training instructors have?
WellSpring School of Allied Health instructors are selected specifically because of their scope of knowledge and their extensive experience in their field. As full-time professional fitness trainers and nutrition coaches themselves, our instructors bring real-world experiences to the classroom. WellSpring School of Allied Health’s low student/teacher ratio maximizes personal attention and success for the student.

Where can I find a job after I graduate from my Medical Assisting program?
Medical assisting professionals have the opportunity to work in a wide array of medical settings – the most prominent is within physicians’ offices. WellSpring’s Career Placement department will help connect you with the better employers in Kansas City and coach you on how to be best prepared for the interview. Your externship experience will be an excellent opportunity for potential employment, as well. At our medical assistant school in Kansas City and Lawrence, our placement with area employers is done on a competitive basis, which means they select the student or students that they want to work in their practice. In some cases, these externship assignments can lead to an offer of employment.

What is the average salary?
The earnings of medical assistants vary, depending on their experience, skill level, and location. The middle 50 percent earned between $23,700 and $33,050 while the highest 10 percent earned more than $39,570. (Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook 2010-2011 edition)

What skills can I learn in the medical assistant school in Kansas City and Lawrence?
The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner’s specialty. In small practices, medical assistants usually do many different kinds of tasks, handling both administrative and clinical duties and reporting directly to an office manager, physician or other health practitioner. Those in large practices tend to specialize in a particular area, under the supervision of department administrators.
Administrative medical assistants’ tasks include:
Updating and filing patients’ medical records
Filling out insurance forms
Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
Answering telephones
Greeting patients
Handling correspondence
Scheduling appointments
Handling billing and bookkeeping
Clinical medical assistants tasks include:
Taking medical histories

What is the education/experience of the medical assisting instructors?
The instructors at our medical assistant school in Kansas City and Lawrence bring with them a depth and breadth of medical assisting in both the administrative and clinical realms. Most of all, the instructors love teaching and working with students eager to learn the necessary content and skills to function highly in the healthcare system of the 21st century.

What certifications will I obtain upon completing the program?
Students become certified by the Red Cross in CPR / First Aid & AED by virtue of the fact that they completed this training during their regular coursework.
Students will take a certification exam for electrocardiogram at the completion of this module. With a passing score, the student will be able to display a NR-CET (Certified Electrocardiogram Technician) behind their name. Likewise, after successful completion of the venipuncture module, and completing thirty live vein punctures, the student will take a certification exam for phlebotomy. With a passing score, the student will be able to display NR-CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician) behind their name. Upon the completion of the entire program, the student should be prepared to take the Nationally Registered – Certified Medical Assistant (NR-CMA) exam. Once certified, you can be ready to step into your new career!
