Earlier this week, Montana became the 43rd state to regulate massage therapy. As of July 1, 2010, anyone practicing massage therapy in Montana will be required to have a license. Similar to requirements in Missouri and Overland Park, KS, the new law establishes educational and examination standards for new practitioners and establishes provisions for licensing existing practitioners.
The law also provides a definition of massage-therapy’s scope of practice and an avenue for consumer complaints, according to the American Massage Therapy Association, who’s Montana chapter has been instrumental in getting the law passed and recently announced the new regulation.
